I now own a franchise with CruiseOne

tradeshowI know my blog has not been updated in sometime. This last year has been crazy busy and I opened my own Franchise with CruiseOne! I also have 4 Travel Professional on my team to assist with your travel needs! I hope now I will have more time to write on my blog!

Working for Cruises Inc for 8 years was an amazing experience. This is a picture of my very first booth many years ago!! Look at the TV lol. Cruises Inc and CruiseOne are owned by World Travel Holdings. So nothing really else has changed except I get to have agents. I love teaching people the travel business. So if you have ever dreamed about being a travel agent give me a call.

Halloween on a Cruise Ship

I just got back from a 4 night cruise on board the Golden Princess. How could you beat a 4 night cruise for $199 per person plus tax. Sign me up! My daughter just turned three which is the preferred age to travel on cruises with kids. She has been cruising since 6 months old but now she is eligible for the children activities!! I will admit the best part of a cruise is a little mommy me time :)  I have been on other holiday sailings but never Halloween! My family was cruising as well so we had a total of 9.

I am only reviewing Halloween since you can’t find to much info on this. It is up to each ships Captain if they choose to do Halloween Events. We called Princess and they said they did not know if anything would be going on. We all brought costumes just in case.

The ship was decorated in most of the Venues. They had over 20 pumpkins in the atrium alone!  At 3:00 they had a Costume Event for the children. It was packed with family members and just anyone who wanted to see the kiddos dressed. They talked to every child and asked them their name and who they were dressed as for Halloween. Some kids had no costume but it looked liked the children’s dept did what they could to make them a pirate. I also noticed Parents buying what they could in Ensenada so clearly some thought there was nothing going on.  After the event they took the children on a Trick or Treat adventure to shops on the ship. They provided the trick or treat bag and it was pretty full. Adults on the ship were also giving out candy! Many were in the Halloween Spirit! My daughter would go up to witches and try to melt them. The first one she actually tried to find a glass of water which gave the witch a frighten look. Once we went with pretend water all the witches were on board!

FamilyHalloweenPhoto2

The night event was a Halloween Party! They had a costume party which had around 100 participated. This was a family vacation and to see even my parents dressed up was priceless!! They offered professional Photo’s for $24.99 which of course I bought it! I will probably never seen my mother dress as Glinda the Witch again.

By the way my husband and fathers favorite photo was with the nurses. They keep telling everyone they had a heart problem on the ship and needed medial attention.

I hope you all had a great Halloween!!

P.S. our next big sale is Black Friday. Don’t tell anyone I told you ahead of time :)

Plastic Water Filtering Bottle a new must when cruising!

Brita-Bottle-Blue-Purifier-Brita-35558A must have now when cruising!! One of the big things cruise lines sell is water! Who wants to drink water from Mexico right? You can easily pay over $6 for a bottle of water. Well now bring your own! You can buy a Brita water bottle for around $ 18. Of course there are pleny of others on the market but I love Brita’s taste the best. They even have ones for kids like Dora the Explorer or Sponge Bob Square pants.

CruiseFareMonitor.com vs CruiseFish.net

piggybankI was listening to Cruise Radio the other day and a company came on called Cruise Fare Monitor. They were saying that they can save people money but monitoring the prices. I went to their site to check it out. I already use Cruise Fish so I wanted to see the difference.

First of all, the site really upset me on how they say Travel Agents don’t care about getting you the cheapest price.

“Travel agents have no incentive to monitor price drops for you because their commission drops if you rebook at the lower rate.”

That’s a bunch of crap! I do have incentive! Every time I lower a price that’s a repeat client for me. I can name many times I have called the customer and my favorite was over $1000!. I lost maybe $ 80 in commission on $1000  but I make more by keeping the client happy. I also get referral business as well by checking prices. Now I will admit before these sites existed I had to find the price drop myself. So sometimes I would miss a drop. Now with these sites I miss nothing which has really helped my business. I even call for $10 so I get to keep in touch with my customer.

This is a relationship business and the more I know my customers the more they call back. However, the cruise lines are getting smarter and are aware of these sites. So I find now when I call on a drop the conversation also comes with a cancellation fee or final drop. The rules come from the cruise lines and not the agents. I hate these rules because it makes it complicated if they do need to cancel. I believe cancellation fees will be more common, due to these sites. So in the end for the price savoy shopper this may be null and void soon.

So lets talk about the difference of these two sites.

Cruise Fare Monitor.com

Option 1- They have a three tired system and you pay the fee once.

Option A $10-One-time fee in return for daily monitoring and unlimited alerts if the cost of your stateroom (per person) drops below the price originally paid. Option 1A is operational from date of sign-up until you make your final payment to the cruise line (anywhere from 60-90 days before departure). Reduced fares cannot be obtained after the date of final payment, but sometimes you can to use the price drop to upgrade to a higher category stateroom (see options 1B and 1C).

Option B $12-One-time fee in return for daily monitoring and unlimited alerts if the cost of your stateroom (per person) drops below the price originally paid. Option 1B is operational from date of sign-up until sailing date.

Option C $15-One-time fee in return for daily monitoring and alerts when the cost of your cruise fare drops below the price originally paid up until sailing, plus daily monitoring and alerts when the cost of any stateroom in a higher category on your ship drops down to or below the price you paid for your stateroom.

Option 2 Free-daily monitoring and unlimited alerts when your cruise fare drops below the price originally paid. If the cost of your stateroom never drops below the price you paid, there is no charge. Option 2 is operational from date of sign-up until you make your final payment to the cruise line (anywhere from 60-90 days before departure). Every time the cost of your stateroom drops we will: 1) alert you immediately, 2) your credit card on file will then be charged 20% of the drop in fare for the stateroom, and 3) you will receive two free bonuses at no additional charge: after final payment — continuous daily monitoring and unlimited alerts until sail date, and daily monitoring and unlimited alerts when the cost of any stateroom in a higher category on your ship drops down to or below the price paid for your stateroom.

CruiseFish.net

The unlimited monitoring of all cabin categories for a single saildate costs only $0.99 USD (less if purchased in bulk).

Here are some of the bulk prices. 1 credit per alert.

12 Credit-$9.99

25 Credit- $19.95

1 Year-$49.95

Lifetime- $149.95

All other CF services are free (deals, forum, ship alerts, etc.) and will always remain so.  There is no software to install or maintain. CF runs entirely online watching cruises 24/7 for you.

As a travel agent I have to use CruiseFish since the pricing makes the most sense to my business. In the end its really up to you. I would recommend reading the about us sections. They explain how many times they check pricing and other details. Both sites have potential to save you money.

Wearing a Lanyard on a Cruise Ship

CI4SUBL_rgI have been wearing a Lanyard on cruises since I started cruising. Everyday I carry I swear a 30 pound purse. This is my only week of Freedom!! I started this before the cruise ships caught on to the idea. Now you can purchase one on pretty much every line. I know on Disney they give them out if your a Castaway member.

When your on a cruise you don’t need your wallet or purse. Pretty much everything you do requires your card for a purchase and some casinos use them as well. Almost all Casino’s will let you get cash for a fee. Some people will wear them as well due to status. Yes your Cruise Card tell the staff how many times you have sailed with them. So for example I am Diamond on Royal Caribbean. I always get a welcome home from a few of the staff which makes you feel special. The lanyard comes in great for kids as well! I would say for 8 or older it works well for so they don’t lose the card.

I know some suites guests may not like them since its says suite.  I do use my purse or tote bag at the ports. This lanyard I just ordered for my customers!! It’s probably the best one I have seen! I can’t wait till they show up!!

So I was browsing my Roku in Travel. I saw Cruise Addicts so I downloaded it. It has all the You Tube channels of all the major cruise lines and my favorite podcast Cruise Radio. So far this is all the channel has but I give it a A for effort. I don’t know why the rest our not following the program. I can’t wait to see what Roku has in the future!! It has so much potential! So I do recommend the download!!
